Devotional 1/8

Let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:28-29

The struggle you’re in today, is developing the strength you will need tomorrow.

Is the God you serve a bipolar God? One day He loves you, but the next He sends you to hell? No, but it is possible that you value your judgment and opinions above God’s truth; and quite frankly, you are your own god! You think of God as a stronger version of you, but God is much greater, He is perfect and holy. We have a blameless and faithful Savior!

We have entered into covenant by the blood of Jesus! The blood was used to redeemed and to make contracts (or covenants). And Jesus became our blood sacrifice! He sprinkled of His blood on our conscience. Conscience:

  • an inner feeling or voice viewed as acting as a guide to the rightness or wrongness of one’s behavior.
  • the sense of the moral goodness or blameworthiness of one’s own conduct, intentions, or character together with a feeling of obligation to do right or be good.

The Lord has given us promises, and He is faithful to fulfill them. We must stand firm in believing! We must be confident that even if our actions contaminate us, or if our hearts condemn us: we are presentable to God, inside and out! Jesus, our Lord, made us right with God, he wiped our slate clean. This is the power of God unto salvation, that we have been ransomed from sin and its power.

I know it’s hard to believe, and even harder to fully grasp. But the Lord is awesome and works in mysterious ways. We have been justified by grace! We have become the righteousness of God. We have been redeemed! We can come boldly to throne of the Most Holy God! The inheritance we have been given is secure. All things concerning freedom (salvation, deliverance, and/or redemption) are available to us without restriction… when we ask for it in prayer!

And yes, this includes you who sinned earlier today, and who may sin tomorrow. The Lord said “IT IS FINISHED”. God will not fail in saving us, we are secure…. He is able, if we are willing to yield.

Let’s pray:

Most holy and benevolent God, thank you for your undeserved grace and mercy. Thank you for redeeming us from the hands and agenda of Satan. Thank you for your presence and conviction you have given us. I pray today for forgiveness of sins, and ask you to open the eyes of those who may feel afraid of losing their salvation or wondering if they ay are lost beyond return. I ask you to touch our hearts and minds, so that we may yield to your will my God. May we receive your help in our times of need. In Jesus name, Amen.

Devotional 11/21

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

Love is a state of being. You can be in love, and it is fun while it lasts, or you can become love, which is much richer and more interesting, and infinite.

Lord God, you are Love. You are Wisdom. You are the eternal father. Your word says that there was nothing made outside of you, all things were made for you and through you. This I know includes us.

I pray for each of us, today. May we walk in love, may we grow in love. May we see your grace and your presence in our lives. As you are love, may we be love. As you are wisdom, may we be wisdom.

We recognize that it is you working in us, to please you and to do your will. So I ask that these virtues are what you also work in us. Through these characteristics which are your being, be our mirror as well. I pray you move us to do, and to serve others in love and wisdom.

I ask you to teach and show us what may be blocking our ability to walk in love and wisdom, if there is something. I ask you to give us strategy and opportunity to cultivate these traits in our lives. May our history or prior experience, only be a catalyst to the changes you want to draw out of us.

May you awaken our spirit in the moment when we would walk contrary to love and wisdom. I ask you for these favors, in Jesus name. Amen.

Devotional 11/3

Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:12‬

God’s Grace through Christ is greater, than our sin even on our worst day.

Jerry Bridges

The word says in Ephesians 2:10, that God has already predestined good works for us. We are simply the instruments He used to bring these about. We have been chosen by God: but grace, not because we earned it. We have received undeserved love and favor, and it has nothing to do with our goodness or good works. It is in our best interest to submit our strength, creativity and energy to God… because He will bless many through our disposition.

We are imperfect and God is holy, but He does a sanctifying work in us as we grow in Him. He literally raises us. The moment we are born again, we become spiritual infants. Infants are fed, embraced and baby’s. But eventually infants learn to walk, and feed themselves becoming toddlers. They grow into school children, adolescents, young adults and maturing adults.

  • Infants: are drunk in the love of God
  • Toddlers : learn a few scriptures and think they are ready to run the church
  • School children: begin to make friends in school, disrespect teachers, become teachers pets, become bullies, etc.
  • Adolescents: become rebellious, think they know it all, become lazy towards school work, think about hanging out all the time, etc.
  • Young adults: search for meaning, wonder what they will become when they ‘grow up’, begin to plan for adulthood, etc.
  • Adults: learn to exchange information or services for livelihood(work), begin families, begin inventing or business ordeals, become indecent, etc.

As long as we serve Christ, we have the responsibility to serve but we must also continue to be disciples. We must constantly grow in the word and be consistent in our prayer life. We must be in submission to all authority, and be of service to any task God may have set apart for us.

God has given us work to do here on earth, and by all means may we pursue it! Serving God and serving man is very thin. If we are not careful, life has a way of becoming a burden. Ecclesiastes 10 says that God wants us to enjoy life too, He knows that we get tired of all the work under the sun.

When we neglect to enjoy life, even in Christianity, servitude can become a burden in itself. After speaking with different church leaders, I have found that it is common for church members to become slaves of man, and not slaves of Christ. I even came across one lady who was a psychologist, and spent some time without congregating because she needed to find a church where she could be ‘a disciple’ again.

The Lord has begun a good work in us, and He promises to complete that work when the Lord Jesus returns. May the Lord find us working in edifying His church when He returns!

Let’s pray:

Father God, I pray Lord that each believer you have called and assigned to ministry be a person of balance. May we learn to say yes and when to say no, may we learn to enjoy this life: it is the only life we will live before our eternal life. I pray this simple prayer in Jesus name. Amen.

Devotional 10/5

Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:22-24

In order to serve you have to anticipate a need before it arises.
Serita Jakes

The word was made flesh, the word was with God, and the word was God. Jesus left the place of glory which He had with the Father, to save us. I love that God extends His grace to us, and tells us to come to His throne unashamedly to ask for mercy. And I love that He freely gives abundance of wisdom to those who ask!

I love how Paul breaks down who Jesus is depending on their perception. To the unbelievers, Jesus is foolishness, to the religious Jesus is a stumbling block. But to us, the called, Jesus is the wisdom of God!

Most of look for confirmation that God exists” we look for supernatural things and miracles… but this does not prove the existence of God. For instance, the statues of the virgin Mary in South America, tends to shed tears of blood. Can we say this is God? No, it is demonic. The bible says that statues are not to be prayed to nor worshipped, so would God go against His own word and manifest through a statue? Remember, Satan performs miracles too (Matthew 24:24). See the source image

We also tend to clap to worldly wisdom: punch lines and philosophy. We love poetry, we love dropping coded messages and call them revelations of God, and we also love to laugh when ministers subtly insult people from the altar. This is all worldly wisdom, which the bible also calls satanic because it comes from the flesh (James 3:15)! When we speak about grace, we get under the skin of the religious people. When we preach God’s mercy, we are doubted by the religious theologians. When we preach about Jesus return, the unbelievers laugh at us. And when we speak about Jesus power to cast out demons, and heal the sick, they look for any which way to give the credit to the universe, the human flesh or any other things except Jesus!

To us who have the privilege of knowing God, believing God and chasing after God… Jesus Christ is life. We seek the Lord for instruction, direction, counsel, and strategy. We present our needs and ideas to God… and we would not have it any other way. We know that God and Jesus are One, and He is powerful beyond measure and HE IS WISDOM.

When we speak of Wisdom, we must acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Wisdom, (Proverbs 8). He ought to be our foundation, our core and our guide. Imagine the word if God is Jesus, grace is Jesus, and wisdom is also Jesus. We cannot and should not ever believe we have enough Jesus.

Let’s pray:

Father God, King of kings, Lord of lords! We come before you to ask you for wisdom! We need your wisdom Lord. In order to live life and fulfill our greatest potential, and avoid setback, my God we plead for your wisdom. I ask for this grace for myself, and all believers around the world. And I thank you for abundance of wisdom. In Jesus name, Amen.

Devotional 10/4

The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish tears it down with her own hands. Proverbs 14:1

You are exactly where you need to be. Be faithful, for God is always working to bring what you need most into your life.

Leon Brown

Many people believe that God gives us free will in the area of marriage, and I agree He does, but not if we are after His perfect will. God gives us wisdom, discernment and understanding so that we can make decisions that enable us to walk in His perfect will. As a Christian, we must uphold Biblical principles, and for today I will speak on on relationships. Unions outside of the will of God do not have the capacity to live according to biblical precepts, and will debilitate and even frustrate, the strongest of believers.

There is a right way to go about seeking a mate… and to do it from a place of unbelief is to go after it yourself. When I am trying to obtain something I need, or desire from doing the wrong things (going against God’s word) … I am insulting God’s wisdom and judgement. Man was not created to be alone, God created Eve when He noticed that Adam was alone. God’s judgement is perfect! He wants us to have:

  • Connection (intimacy, sharing)
  • Companionship (fellowship, support)
  • Government (leadership, work, ministry)
  • Produce (family, business, talent)

While teaching my youth class a few weeks ago, we spoke about decisions and consequences. We spoke of Sampson, and Moses- God allowed them to fulfill their purpose, but their stories had sad endings. The Lord allows us to make our own decisions, but His permissible will is not His ideal for us. Making our own choice, outside of the will of God is not worth the pain of heartbreak, delay because of distraction, or the loss of dignity that comes with dealing with some one who has not being sanctified by the Lord. When I say this, I speak of dating both Christians and unbelievers.

The Bible says that a wise women builds her house. In essence the men are the head of household, but us, females, build the house (relationship). If we are insecure, needy, indecisive, angry, arrogant or bratty (etc) our houses will suffer or fall apart. Relationships take a lot of time and effort, and require lots of wisdom, humility, discipline and patience: similar to our own relationships with God Himself. Only God knows the right person, the right timing, the past and the future. Only God knows what is perfect for you, and what will be a struggle or a detriment. Our Lord is a good good Father: He desires (and knows) that it is better to wait on Him for a romantic partner.

My advice to all the single people, is to love yourself: make yourself internally happy. Remind yourself that you are the best, the prettiest, the most handsome, the sexiest, the most loveable, the one who deserves the best love. Confront your issues, if right now u feel unhappy or negative in any area of your life, overcome it by reprogramming your minds in that area. (These areas will not change because or when you are in a relationship)

I also tell you: refuse the enemy’s entrance into your self esteem. Being single, or not having that type of attention (or affection) can make us feel like we are not good looking or like something is wrong with us- please recognize this is Satan’s doing. His goal is to make us distracted, desperate and incredulous. Remember Satan is your enemy. His plan is to reroute and derail us from the perfect will of God.

When you love and enjoy yourself and serve God from your heart, you will glorify Him. And whether you realize it or not, He is working behind the scenes in your favor … most importantly He is perfecting you.

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, thank you for your perfect will. I pray you increase the faith of my brothers and sisters, may you awaken them from their sleep, and take the blindfolds off their eyes so that they may see. You are a good father, who cares for His children and will provide for all their needs. I thank you for being faithful, and generous with your tender mercies. And I thank you for working things out, even when we do not see you working. I pray you would convict your children with waiting on you, and give them grace to abstain from sexual sins. In Jesus name, Amen.

Devotional 9/16

And by the seventh day God completed His work which He had done; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Genesis 2:2

Every person needs to take one day away. A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future. Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence. Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.
Maya Angelou

Lord God, today I come before you to thank you for my body and mind. Thank you for health, agility and ability. It is by your grace and mercy that our bodies are well functioning and complete. Thank you even for the aches and pains, which remind us how frail we are. And thank you for aerobic exercises which teach us of our own capabilities. I thank you for foods which heal, and boost our body’s proper functioning.
We are beyond blessed, and we thank you for it. I pray today that we may remember to take care of our bodies and minds. May we eat well, and get enough sleep during the nights. Our bodies are the instruments with which we serve you Lord, and we ask for wisdom to care for it. May you impart in us wisdom to balance our responsibilities, leisure time and resting time. See the source image
Free our lives from stress and fatigue Jesus, help us to do our part to develop a new and efficient normal. Whether this looks like changing our daily habits like our food intake and exercise, or going to sleep earlier, and if it means turning off our phones.
I pray for healing according to your word, you were bruised for our wrongs, you were beaten for our healing, by your stripes we were healed.
I also pray for our mental health, may we be able to progress and not go into isolation for whatever reason. Restore the weary minds so that they can function properly. May we enjoy the world in which we live in, as you have allowed us to live in. May we use our legs to walk, our eyes to gaze as the beautiful trees, architecture, the sky and the stars, may those who are handicapped be able to experience the beauty of nature. May we go to parks, new restaurants, comedy shows, boat rides, and many more things.
We need Your joy, so that no matter how tired we are we can serve and rejoice. I pray for any who feel tired, empty or forgotten God, may we all change our speech to gratitude and avoid complaining at all times.
I pray we would make time to be refreshed in the spirit as well. May we put our prayer lives first, may we be strengthened and refocused in that secret place where we come to be with you alone Jesus. I pray for protection against any darts aimed to cause your sons and daughters spiritual fatigue as well.
I pray according to your word today Jesus, please give strength to the weary, and increase the power of the weak! In Jesus name, Amen.

Devotional 9/12

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools get in trouble. Proverbs 13:20

Associate yourself with people of good quality, for it is better to be alone then in bad company.
Booker T. Washington

The Bible says a good friends sticks closer than a brother. Chemistry clicks, but real friendship looks like something… I can count my real friends with one hand… you only need a few good people on your side. It’s about time we recognize where our relationships stand, I love everyone and so should you… but not every-one is your friend.

I have had my fair share of friendships, but I do not consider everyone my friend. I expose certain things about myself, which make people think that they are my friend: meanwhile, I don’t. A good friend will love you for who you are, and fight battles with you, so this person is someone YOU go to. In order to choose a good friend, you must observe what they do, and discern (or ask) why they do them. See the source imageIf you must create a checklist for yourself (I think we all should), it would look something like this:

  • they offer unconditional support
  • they make sure they are PRESENT in the moment with you and listen
  • they choose to love you, not out of compulsion or because the bible says to (lol)
  • they enjoy our company and vice versa
  • they are loyal to you, they stick with you through the good and the bad, and they know to forgive
  • they want to make us smile and/or make our day better
  • they accept you, flaws and all
  • they are not jealous or envious of you or your life
  • they are non-judgment, trustworthy, considerate, kind and respectful
  • sensitivity about our feelings, but are also honest, and sincere (even when it hurts)

Growing up my mom gave me some advice on friendships: you can tell who somebody is, by who their friends are & never pay attention to what people say about themselves.  We all hope to be in relationships that last a whole lifetime, but not many people think about anything other than themselves. Friends come and go in our lives: some are for a lifetime and others are for only a season. I have had friends who only cared for me because they were bored with their own lives, and wanted something to do. I have had other friends who have used me to shop, eat or travel. And I have also had friends who take all that I could give, and I have to walk away when I see my efforts and love were taken for granted.

I woke up this morning asking God why I lost friendships over wrong conclusions, I sat there and wondered why did He not simply show those people what actually happened and not what their mind concluded… but I have accepted that things had to be that way. God knows who He wants our friends to be, especially if you are praying to be wiser, stronger and in His will: He wanted me to be a better person. I understand now that if I had remained friends with those individuals, I may not be who I am today. And because we are heavily influenced by our close friends, we must pay attention who we spend our time and energy with. Side note: Not only do we subconsciously begin to imitate their habits, but we begin to look alike! I get that a lot about 2 friends of mine, who I look nothing like. What I do know is that we shared a bond, which could not easily broken. And while doing so, the soul ties we build made it easy to adopt their behaviors, and mannerisms and even their way of thinking.

Although we have lost friendships in the past, due to no fault of our own, I believe God gives us the friends who would be part of our future and destiny.

Let’s pray:

Lord God, Today I present our futures and destinies to you. May you continue to heal us from past hurts, and give us the wholeness we need to build new relationships. May you break old soul ties, and renew in us a Spirit of love and wisdom. May you solidify those friendships which are ordained to ride with us through the end, and we give you permission to shake the flakes away. In Jesus name, Amen.
