Devotional 7/15

Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. 1 Peter 5: 7

God cares about everything that concerns you, so feel free to talk to Him about anything.
Joyce Meyer

What thoughts are feeding your emotions? Are they leading you to things? Emotions are messengers from our beliefs and thought life.

The bible says that we are free from the influences of this world (Col. 2), and that Christ is the head of the body (the church). As members of the body, we’re called to care for each other and help each other. The Lord wants us to care about our own thought patterns and feelings, but also of those who we are interrelated with. God cares about what we think and what we conclude from the circumstances of life. God cares about how we feel, and why we feel that way. He knows that our emotions are related to our thoughts and behavior. The Lord brought me back to Genesis 16, to the time when Hagar was being oppressed by Sarah and she had enough and ran away. God met her when she was out in the desert and He told her, go back and submit to your masters and made some promises over her life… she then recognized that God is El Roi: the God who sees her.

Whatever situation God is allowing us to stay in… even if we have had enough and want to escape, right now it’s not the time… God controls the seasons and he wants us to be resilient and be firm for this season… The Lord will not spare us from the pains and losses of life: God will not keep our hearts from being hurt, offended, betrayed, etc. But He has given us principles to live by. The bible says we are to pray about everything with thanksgiving (Phil. 4:6) and to guard our hearts (Prov. 4:23).

Like Job said, He knows the way I take: when He has tried me I will come forth as gold (Job 23:10). He is watching over every detail of our lives and He knows how much we can take! Keep holding on!

By coming to the Lord with sincere and open hearts, we can be resilient and manage our emotions in healthy ways which build endurance and strength.

Let’s pray:

Thank you Father God, for helping us through trying times. I pray you visit your children and comfort them through their grieving seasons. May you strengthen those who are becoming weary. And those who want to run away. You are our soccourer, our help in time of need and the lifter of our heads. We love you Lord, in Jesus name. Amen.

Devotional 7/11

You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11

Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to KNOW GOD, most of life’s problems fall into place of their own accord.

J. I Packer

You’s the man Holy Spirit! Thank you for coming to us, for being our companion, strength and helper.

We wouldn’t be able to do life without you Mr. Spirit. You teach us, you accompany and comfort us. You do so much for us, there are not enough words or time to express my gratitude or describe all you have done for us.

You are better than our earthly parents and loved ones, and you can bless us in much greater ways: we invite your blessings into our lives. We know that every good thing comes from you, the father of lights; and so I ask you to open the heavens and pour our blessing for your children. I pray you give us what our hearts desire, and increase our faith and convictions to know and follow your leading.

Thank you for changing and restoring us. For not withholding any good thing from us. Thank you for allowing us to experience your joy. Thank you for being for us, and not against us. Thank you for fighting for us. Thank you for giving what we ask for, and providing what we need Lord Jesus.

You did not spare Your Son for us, so we know that you won’t withhold anything else from us.

You Lord God are love, and you never fail!

In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Devotional 7/10

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. Ephesians 1:13-14

We are secure, not because we hold tightly to Jesus, but because He holds tightly to us.
R.C Sproul

Branding is a representation of product or services offered. God is our brand and we are His representatives. He is our maker, and we are His product.

We all wear name brand clothes, some are expensive and some are not but we know who they came from. Herdsmen marked their animals with hot signet rings to differentiate them from other herdsmen animals. And God too, has seals us with His Holy Spirit because we belong to Him.

We are branded with the Spirit if God from the moment we repent, and confess Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. It is by faith we believe, and by confession we are saved. The seal of God lets us and the world know that we belong to Him. We are not our own, and we were bought with a price (1 Cor. 6:20). Although in the natural we may not recognize His mark on us, others who do not belong to God know we are different. We talk different, we think different, we move differently. We honor God with all we do, we’re empowered believers, with intimacy with God. He walks with us even if we don’t acknowledge Him. He fights for us, blesses us and hides us because we are His. He will keep us until the day of redemption, therefore we have security in Christ. But we must go a step further: it’s up to us to be filled with the Spirit of God.

He sealed us when we first believed, He is our “down payment” of eternal life (Eph. 1:13). He is the foretaste of glory on this earth. The seal of the Holy Spirit is divine assurance of God’s promises for our lives.

Let’s pray:

God, we love you. Thank you for sealing us and setting us apart for your glory and praise. May you reveal yourself to those who have believed, may you open their understanding to know they belong to you. May they walk worthy of their identity. May they go further and be filled if your Spirit. Help them to build an intimate relationship with you. In Jesus name, Amen.

Devotional 7/9

For what our human nature wants is opposed to what the Spirit wants, and what the Spirit wants is opposed to what our human nature wants. These two are enemies, and this means that you cannot do what you want to do. Galatians 5:17

Take heart if your soul feels like a battlefield. The sign, you are in dwelt by the Spirit is not that you don’t have bad desires, but that you are at war with them!

John Piper

God uses fire in different seasons to bring to light the attitudes and mindsets which do not complement His call. The greatest hindrance for any believer is to walk in the flesh, and not by the Spirit. We have options, we can walk in our emotions, in the flesh or in the Spirit.

  • Our emotions constantly change, and our heart is deceptive and wicked so it’s not dependable. The soul is the seat of your mind, will and emotions, and it manifests in the way we speak, and behave. As I’ve been saying for a few weeks now: it must be restored.
  • And the flesh is our natural self, the part of us where sin lives, the part that is completely separated from God. It’s mind is completely against the mind of the Spirit of God. And although the flesh seems reliable, it can never lead us into the quality of life which God wants us to have. The flesh will always try to meet its needs apart from God: its proud, self sufficient, in control, calculating and judgemental.
  • But to walk in the Spirit is to walk as the Lord would. The Spirit of God is loving, patient, peaceful, gentle, kind and self disciplined. The Spirit of God opens our eyes and ears to see and hear God: He leads us to do God’s will: He teaches us: comforts us, and looks to do the same for others.

We were all born into sin, and our old way of living influences us on a daily basis. Romans 7 explains what is going on inside of us on a daily basis: I see a different law at work in my body—a law that fights against the law which my mind approves of. It is the law of sin, which is at work in my body (23). Living from a carnal nature causes strife between the Spirit of God in us and grieves Him. Can we actually choose to walk in the Spirit? How?

Yes, if we know the word of God. To walk in the Spirit means that we humble ourselves,

  • to God’s control
  • to follow His lead,
  • to put His word before us as a light unto our path

We can do this!

Let’s pray:

Father God I come before you in the name of Jesus. I ask you to forgive us from walking in our emotions, by sight, in pride or any other carnal way which has saddened you or limited your flow in us. I pray you continue to strengthen us to walk how you desire for us to walk, may we discern and yield to your voice and impressions, and may we silence anything that may lead us in opposition to your will. In Jesus name, Amen.

Devotional 7/8

… these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 1 Corinthians 2:10-11

God will always prepare you for the place he is taking you. What looks overwhelming for you now, will feel natural when you get there. That’s how you know it’s supernatural.

John Gray

The Spirit of God knows the mind of God. And without the Spirit of God we cannot know what God wills for our lives.

It is impossible to know, much less understand the thoughts and the ways of God. The Bible says that the ways and thoughts of the lord are much higher than our own (Is.55:8-9). But the amazing thing is that we have access to the mind of God, by His spirit. The Holy Spirits helps teach us and direct us in the plans which God has for us. We may not be able to understand what is happening in our lives. But it doesn’t mean that God doesn’t know what is happening. Like Abraham, God wants you to do an absolutely new thing and take you to an absolutely new place. The LORD told Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you (Gen. 12:1) Abram didn’t know He was going but God only needed His faith to make moves.

We may believe to be doing do the will of God, but God will block our path. The apostle Paul had been commissioned by the church and the Holy Spirit to preach the gospel to the nations. He wanted to go to Asia, but God stopped him in his tracks: they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia… they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not allow them (Acts 16:6-7). It is important to lean on the Spirit of God for direction. For some of us, faith looks like setting things in order, for others it’s take a sabbatical to press into God in prayer. One thing is for certain, we must seek God until we receive clear instructions. Paul had a vision of a man in Macedonia calling him, it was a clear direction from the Spirit to where he was headed next.

In the scriptures, the Lord would visit his people and prophets, and tell them Arise to so and so. You see God is infinite and wisdom. He is sovereign and All knowing. He knows the end from the beginning and is in control of all things we submit to Him. He is able to and will lead us along His best path for our lives. It does take faith though, just like Abraham had: and in turn God considered Him a friend. I’m sure his father did not understand why he would leave, but He had to be obedient to God. You are not responsible to people who do not believe your steps are directed by the Lord. He will lead us to go to new places: where God guides, He provides!

Let’s pray:

Father God, thank you for directing our steps. Your word says that you will instruct us and teach us in the way we should go. You said you will counsel us and keep your eyes on us. You also said that you turn our hearts in the direction You desire, so I pray according to your word. May you align our hearts and minds to your will and direction. I pray you make it easier for us to let go of familiarity, and move forward into our new places. In Jesus name, Amen.
